Meet Jayla Bryant: The Youngest Co-author of Step Into Leadership Greatness, Leaders Producing Leaders, Volume 2
Dove Style Magazine had the pleasure of meeting and interviewing the youngest co-author of Step Into Leadership Greatness, Leaders Producing Leaders, Volume 2, by Visionary Dr. Jennifer Jones Bryant. It will make its debut in June 2022.
Ms. Jayla Bryant, who happens to be the daughter of the book’s Visionary, is a leader in her own right at the youthful age of 18. She is a senior at Chesapeake Math & IT Academy North and is excited to graduate in June. Leadership is not a new concept to this young lady, given that she currently serves as the President of her school’s Honor Society, as well as has been in various other leadership positions. She has enjoyed her tenure and is eager to pass the torch to other leaders who will follow in her footsteps.
In addition she also rocks many hats including working as a restaurant server, as well as a Communications Specialist for her mom’s business, Reaching From Within, An Empowerment Company LLC.
Jayla has been blazing the leadership trail and it’s only the beginning. This book project will be her first experience as an author. Although she was a bit nervous at first, as she began writing her chapter, that feeling soon dissipated and the words began to flow. She believes in working hard now so she can play hard later, and that is exactly what she is doing. She’s only weeks away from her high school graduation and already knows the benefits of working hard work as a young adult, and she is looking forward to seeing the fruit of her labor.
When asked to define leadership, Jayla shared that it means leading from behind. She feels that it is important for others to take the driver’s seat and allow them to lead while advocating for and helping them whenever they need assistance. “If you are never granted the opportunity, how will you know what to do or what you’re capable of doing,” she said. She believes that leaders are those who inspire change within others and encourage them to make wise decisions for themselves. When leading others, Jayla is successful when she taps into their personal side. She loves bringing people together to allow them to get to know each other.
She has enjoyed working on this collaboration with her mom. Not only has it afforded her the opportunity to gain writing and publishing experience, but it has also allowed her to network with others.
Jayla clearly is wise beyond her years. She shared how she has observed others downplay their accomplishments and when that happens she feels it is important for leaders to recognize the impact they have on the lives of others and celebrate those moments without fear or guilt. Powerful advice indeed!
As for Jayla’s next steps, she’s excited to start her freshman year of college at North Carolina A&T where she will major in Information Technology. She also hinted at possibly writing again in the future and would love to tap into the subject of colorism. Lastly, she desires to encourage others to use their energy to inspire others. It’s a safe bet that we will see this young leader on the rise, again.
